The BISP early years indoor and outdoor environments are fantastic - great areas for children to learn within. We are also committed to making the most of the areas beyond the classroom. Our large campus provides great opportunities to connect with real and purposeful learning. With trips to the gardens, construction areas, refectory or coffee shop and short trips off campus to local spots, there is never a shortage of experiences to engage hearts and minds.
We plan from individual children's interest and learning needs. Many of these interests lead to opportunities to go out of the classroom in a small group. A Nursery group headed off to Boat Lagoon recently - here's the story ...
A group of Nursery children enjoyed a trip to Boat lagoon shop today. With lists in hand we went in search of ingredients to make sandwiches. The children were super shoppers, following instructions well and did the school proud!
On arrival a fellow shopper asked “How old are these children? Wow they are doing real things, real life learning. That’s great’ and yes it was great.
Taking a small group out rather than a whole class means as teachers we get to focus more on the individual learning needs of children rather than on controlling a large group of children.
Excursions in school or in the wider community are planned with specific children in mind and each of the children have the opportunity to take part in an excursion planned specifically linked to their next steps in their learning journey.
Exploring the world beyond our classrooms is especially beneficial for developing children’s language.
The children seem to open up outside the classroom, commenting on what they notice and making connections to past experiences. We look forward to many more small group excursions in the future.
