In the BISP early years we pay careful attention to the transition needs of children as they move from one learning environment to another.
For a number of weeks now, we have been arranging for children to visit and explore their next learning environment, to meet staff they will work with next year and to introduce routines that will be part of their next learning environment. Using the great relationships children have with their current teachers and the confidence they have in their learning environment is the perfect time to start to introduce aspects of their next experiences to the children.
Reception children visiting the Refectory, next years teachers visiting the younger classes, matching registration processes and other routines and playing in and exploring new areas, are just a few examples of helping children with the up-coming transitions.
Today the first group of older Little Ducks, who are going to Nursery next year, had a swimming lesson. This was very well received, the children had great fun, and they learned about how we travel together to the pool, how we get changed and stay together, how to wait for their teachers, how a lesson works and how to get back to class safely. Big learning experience and lots of fun games in the water too. Many thanks to Helen Sweeney and the swimming staff team for the first of a series of these experiences designed to demystify swimming in Nursery.
